healing

neck brace is off, i don't carry around pain medication anymore.
everything's stiff, and my constant back spasm is annoying.
but i can eat again, and walk 5 miles, and the jaw doesnt ache in the cold.
time to pick my life back up again.

i hate eating.

I’m on lots of ibuprofen, which has to be taken with food.
So I’m forced to eat something substantive every 4 hours.
This would normally be great fun, but
a) I’m not exercising and my appetite has just gone. I dont want to eat.
b) With a broken jaw, I’m limited to soft or small foods.

Most of my favorite snacks and meals are off limits (unless in tiny pieces)
And I’m getting tired of bananas and soup.

My diet’s changed – lots of dairy (cheese, ice cream), Indian (lentils and curry) with some steamed veg and chopped apples for variety.

Baby food. Missing my steaks, toast and raw carrots.

healing update

sorry for the lack of posts, i'm either swamped at work, sitting on the bus, or dead asleep these days.

neck - i can now sleep without the miami j collar, and i can start taking it off slowly next week as the soreness allows.

jaw - the fractures are healing slightly out of place, less than a millimeter down, and the dentist wants me back in six weeks to fix my bite. and teeth.

cheek - healing, blood bruise slowly going down

wrist - 4 more weeks in this **** cast. no pain though.

back - i've ripped some muscle and it's hurting all the time. physio to help.

3 weeks to go, for the neck brace. 5 for the wrist. plus there's the jaw, and who knows.

until then life slows down. sloww....(breathe deeply, repeat)...new patience

turning points

axial life choices. do or die moments. events that force your hand. the big gulp. whatever name you choose, there's plenty of them floating in my personal network these days. big decisions going on all around me.

perhaps i picked up an aura from the hospital, and after fate saved me from major health crises, the leftovers floated out on all my guests.

that, or it's just that time of the year.

ibuprofen

living on it these days, as i feel the muscles disappear and watch the scales drop. eating healthy, but 10 hours of sleep a night, long naps, and only little trips to the grocery store are atrophying my muscles.

my mom helps to keep my brain occupied - i'm reading lots for school but we've also cleaned out the cupboards in my room, sorted my closet, cooked three meals every day and done all that laundry i've always been meaning to do.

bought the tickets for the cyle trip in may and started the insurance claim process (although i still can't get through the police to find out where they're keeping the remains of my bicycle!!!) - need something to look forward to and keep fit for.

watching where you're going.

first, thank you to the people who kept me sane. to contessa, zoot, karan, rishab, veg, gil, ed, neel, collyn, andre, pravir, anna, peter and my boss, for all your time, economists', sushi, smoothies, donated mp3 players, chocolate puddings, and laughter. even if it hurt.

yes, i cyled into the back of a bus. no, the bus wasn't moving. no, it didn't even have people on it. i hit the back of a parked bus somewhere above 20 mph, having looked up just in time to catch the impact on my right cheek.

current status - fractured the a few of the little bits that stick off the vertebrae on my spine, fractured a bone in my left wrist, fractured my eye socket and probably damaged sinus tissue.

when i arrived, sirens blaring, the doctors were worried i was going to hurt my spine, so i got strapped to a bed for a while, while they ran all the scans and tests. then i was going to have to wear a halo - lovely term for metal poles sticking out of your head and forming a frame that connects to your shoulders so you can't twist your neck.

but they've decided on a neck brace for a while, and a cast for my wrist, and likley nothing for my face. although i have to go back to the doctors this week to confirm all this.

until then, i'm out of the hospital, home in london with my parents, and very very sore.
