40 minutes

cycled to work this morning, in the slanting spring sunshine.
cool air, warm sun, and crystal plane trails quilting the sky.
happy!

where does it all go?

freedom, a toast

one of the fullest weeks of my life.

early mornings in the office, finishing uni essays.
leading major client meetings, negotiating team and funding priorities.
standing on train platforms in the countryside, smiling and squinting into the sun. thinking little.
running home from the cinema (golden flower) with josi, playing ninja among the kensington gardens.
tears, sadness and frustration.
cheap noodles in soho. delicious italian in kensington.
old friends walking together, chatting about our men.
picking all the green coloured jelly bellys out of the mixed jelly bean pot.
bad economics essays, guessing at price movement theory.
doctors appointments with a surprise, and a cast removal.
cooking dinner for 6 - pork, asparagus, baked apples.
tight hugs and 5am wake-up calls. laughter in bed.
showering with two hands.
well written environmental essays, arguing the benefits of planning in addressing environmental problems.
smiles, happiness and joy.

spring in the countryside

saturday i dragged myself out of a warm bed (an hour late) and got on the trains to london's southwestern suburbs. to a sponge strategy day at bedzed. forgot to take pictures, while eating yummy organic food and debating where the sustainability agenda will be in5 years. decided on some priorities to take further - i'm down to develop the 'sustainability is more than addresing climate change' agenda, specifically to bring in non-architect/enginnering types into sponge. right up my alley, with my background in community engagement and urbanism.

a lazy afternoon & evening over at z's empty house, reading books and writing my papers. laughter in the sunshine and good food - a soy/port reduction sauce to top off the perfectly seared tuna.

josi arrived yesterday evening, to a broccili cheese dinner and years of catching up.

2 essays due this week, 2 major meetings, the first classes of term (why am i blogging instead of working?)

circadian rythms

sunday up a wee bit late with rishab over a chicken tikka kebab (london food..); but all the jogging caught up and i crashed early (9.30!) on monday. couldn't sleep tuesday night despite all the cider and food, and last night veg arrived back from his gig at 3.30am, celebrating unemployment and good music with a sizable crowd. so by the time i arrived at heathrow at 7 this morning to meet z, it already felt like noon. and we've a 60a dinner party tonight, so i'll be up late. coffee. tea. more coffee.

weather's gorgeous. lots of running home and eating/drinking with the windows open and the sunlight pouring in.

the sun shines through our living room windows onto the carpeted floor in the mornings now. things are moving up in the hemisphere. (actually, the earth is, but i feel like being god today, so ha)

recent reading list

damascus stories - given by dody
are men necessary - by maureen dowd
an early alain de botton book on love, which i dont reccomend
watching the english, hilarious
a few short natalie northumb books
city of tiny lights, about london's craziness
bits and pieces of cortazar, when i can manage.

spaced out

its that time in a lazy saturday evening, where the sun's slanting orange through the house but the shadows are still in hiding, banished for a little while longer.

it's warm in london now, and sunny. sandals, sunglasses, linen and cider are heading back in. sweaty runs in the mornings, and sweat sunbathing later, all in the now-crowded parks.

i've been wandering around the city on my bus pass, visiting friends, going to work often enough, and missing my bicycle. last weekend i locked myself out of my house (flatmates all away for the 4 day weekend) and re-learned what east (well, central-east) london was like.

i'm having trouble sleeping

too many lie-ins, too many naps, i guess.
and the metro (free london tube paper) this morning which ran an article on green fashion on one page, an article on how to really make a carbon difference we're going to have to change our lifestyles, and then the travel section advertised cheap breaks to sunny islands for easter.

having our cake, and eating it too.
our children's generation are going to hate us.
we knew, and we didn't do enough.

or how my wrist photo on nomadlife would be unthinkable for 99.?% of the population of this planet. i am..not lucky..blessed. yes, i'm alive and not paralysed. yes, i'm grateful. but i'm also horribly annoyed at my cast. and glad the doctors here can do 3D views. it's got bubble wrap instead of fabric in it now, so i can exercise/sweat and it won't get nasty. how kind of them. so i can jog home from work, loving the long english sunsets against the ancient hyde park trees. in so many ways, mundane. and in so many ways, luxurious and exclusive. limited.
